Copilot SEO

Copilot SEO: get cited where your customers work.

Microsoft Copilot sits in Windows, in Edge, in Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams. Nobody has to switch applications to ask it something, so the questions come up mid-task: which supplier, which product, which solution. Copilot answers with numbered sources you can click. Copilot SEO is the work that turns your pages into one of those sources. Semtrix handles that GEO work, from the Bing index down to the last piece of markup.

Copilot SEO

What is Copilot SEO?

Copilot SEO belongs to GEO, Generative Engine Optimization, which puts it alongside classic search engine optimization rather than underneath it. Its own rules, its own GEO levers, and a metric of its own: the citation in Copilot. Semtrix measures that from two directions, through the AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools and through the LLM Ranking module in the Eskimoz App. Start with a free analysis and find out how present your brand is in Copilot and in Bing right now. Copilot SEO covers every GEO measure that gets Microsoft Copilot to treat your content as a reliable source and cite it in its answers. Because Copilot is tied closely to Bing and the wider Microsoft environment, everything in Copilot SEO rests on three things: your pages must be fully covered in the Bing index, they must be clearly structured, and their statements must be verifiable. Copilot SEO is the part of GEO built for this one system, with a form of measurement no other AI system offers. Contrary to what many assume, Copilot does not research using the exact wording of your question. It writes a short search query of its own, sends that to the Bing search service and composes the answer from what comes back. Microsoft describes this sequence in its Microsoft 365 Copilot documentation. In practice, that leads to an uncomfortable truth in Copilot SEO: you are not optimizing for the question people ask, but for the query Copilot builds out of it. Which terms those are shows up in the AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools, where the actual queries that led Copilot to your content are listed. Without that view, GEO work aims past Copilot entirely. Why does Copilot matter for companies? Copilot matters to companies because it sits where the work happens. A buyer building a calculation in Excel asks Copilot about suppliers. A project lead preparing a tender in Teams asks about providers. Neither leaves the application, and both get a recommendation with sources attached. That proximity to the desk changes the character of the questions: they are more specific, more technical and more often tied to a decision already on the table than in a standalone AI app. For B2B providers with an offering that needs explaining, being named by Copilot is therefore often the very first contact, long before anyone opens a website. What makes this channel unusually easy to verify is how it cites. Copilot attaches numbered, clickable references to its answers, so you can see which page it drew on for which statement. That gives Copilot SEO an unbroken chain: the question in Windows or Microsoft 365, the query built from it, the hit in the Bing index, the citation in the answer. If your page drops out at a single link in that chain, visibility ends there. That is why Copilot SEO at Semtrix always starts at the beginning of the chain, with the Bing index, and only then moves on to the editorial GEO work. This is exactly where Copilot differs from the other AI systems. It maintains no web index of its own and runs no crawler of its own. What Bing does not know, Copilot cannot cite, however well it is written. That single rule outranks every other rule in Copilot SEO. Bing Webmaster Tools, a well-kept sitemap and the IndexNow protocol are therefore standard equipment here. IndexNow reports new and changed pages straight to the participating search engines; Bing takes part, Google does not. Pushing for fast discovery in Copilot SEO wins you days there and nothing at all at Google.

In short

Copilot SEO covers every GEO measure that prepares content so Microsoft Copilot recognizes it as a trustworthy source and cites it in its answers with numbered references. What matters is full coverage in the Bing index, unambiguous entities, evidenced facts, structured data and digital authority. Copilot SEO is the Copilot-specific part of GEO, Generative Engine Optimization, and it takes effect where the work happens: in Windows, in Edge, in Microsoft 365, in Teams and in Bing search.

Services

Which Copilot SEO services does Semtrix offer?

How Semtrix sets up GEO as a whole is covered on the GEO agency and GEO optimization pages. GEO, Generative Engine Optimization, holds all AI systems together, yet each one draws on a different source. The other three therefore have pages of their own: ChatGPT SEO, Perplexity SEO and Gemini SEO. What follows here is the scope of work for Copilot SEO.

Bing index coverage as the SEO foundation
Full inclusion of your pages in the Bing index, Bing Webmaster Tools set up properly, a clean sitemap and IndexNow for real-time changes. Everything else in Copilot SEO builds on that Bing coverage, every line of content and every GEO measure.
Content worth citing
Sections that answer a technical question in full and back their statements with a source and a date. Whether Copilot picks up a paragraph and puts a number on it is decided by that structure, not by word count.
Entities and authority
Unambiguous attribution of brand, products and locations, plus mentions in sources Bing picks up. In narrow specialist markets, this GEO point decides whether Copilot can tell you apart from your competitors at all.
GEO audit for Microsoft Copilot
We put your technical questions to Copilot and record which sources it numbers. That shows who Copilot cites in your place today, and why. The findings are the starting point for any Copilot SEO work.
Content preparation
We rewrite your content for citability in Copilot: the answer in the opening sentences, the technical term explained, every number with a source. This is the editorial core of Copilot SEO, and it feeds your classic SEO rankings at the same time.
Entity optimization
We make sure company name, services and locations read the same in every source Copilot can draw on. In B2B markets full of similar company names, that prevents mix-ups in Copilot's answers.
Technical foundations and Bing discoverability
Crawlability, load times, structured data, Bing Webmaster Tools and IndexNow form the technical GEO foundation for Copilot. Technical search engine optimization is not a preliminary stage in Copilot SEO; it is part of the service.
Brand mentions
We build mentions where Bing picks them up: trade portals, industry directories, reference and partner pages. In B2B, this GEO lever carries further than any additional subpage.
GEO monitoring
We evaluate the AI Performance report for Copilot and add GEO prompt tracking on top. That makes it possible to check every single GEO measure in Copilot SEO against its effect.

Why Semtrix for Copilot SEO?

Copilot SEO demands two things at once: solid index work and a feel for how Copilot and related GEO systems pick their sources. Semtrix brings both, classic SEO and GEO. We have worked on search visibility since 2015, now 11 years and more than 1,500 delivered projects, and we took on generative answers before the industry had a word for them. An independent jury confirmed as much: at the European Search Awards 2026 in Porto, the Eskimoz group was named Best Large Integrated Search Agency, and the citation explicitly singled out its early move into GEO. The tooling comes from the group. LLM Ranking in the Eskimoz App tracks whether Copilot cites your brand. CrawlR uncovers which pages Bing, and therefore Copilot, cannot reach at all. Scribe supports the rewriting work, and Notorious shows which sources your competitors built their authority on. On top of that comes what Microsoft supplies itself: the AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools has been available as a public preview since February 2026 and was extended in June 2026 with intents, topics, citation share and a period comparison. That lets us prove GEO work in Copilot SEO rather than assert it. And then there is the part no tool covers: named contacts who know your market and will explain on the phone why a number moved. How that lands is a matter of public record, with 5.0 on ProvenExpert from 132 reviews and 4.8 on Google. You can see who works here on our about us page, and our case studies show results from real projects.

System profile

How Copilot arrives at its answers.

Two of those rows shape the daily work in Copilot SEO. The data basis makes Bing coverage the ticket to entry: no entry in the index, no citation in the answer, without exception. And the point of access explains why the questions look nothing like an evening research session. Copilot gets asked in the middle of a task, often with only half the context from the open document, and it still answers with sources. Those answers turn on standards, interfaces, delivery times, pricing models and responsibilities. Content that answers such detailed questions cleanly gets cited far more often than general service descriptions. That is what Semtrix aims the GEO strategy at. ---

GEO and SEO

GEO and SEO: two disciplines that work together.

Copilot SEO does not make classic search engine optimization redundant; Copilot sharpens its importance. A technically sound, editorially strong website of the kind search engine optimization produces is not a side show in this system but the condition of entry. Because Copilot works through the Bing index, every hour of SEO index work counts twice here: once for your positions in Bing, once for your citations in Copilot. At Semtrix, GEO and search engine optimization carry equal weight, and in Copilot SEO they interlock more tightly than in any other GEO discipline.

What differs is the yardstick. Search engine optimization measures positions in Bing and Google. Copilot SEO measures how often Copilot puts a number on your pages and what share of all citations on a topic you end up with. The two cannot be converted into each other, even though with Copilot they share the same root. Semtrix therefore collects both and sets them side by side in the report: Bing positions from Monitoring, citations from the AI Performance report and from LLM Ranking.

Process

How does working with Semtrix actually go?

The GEO route for Copilot is always the same and it starts at the index: check what Bing knows, decide what happens first, implement, build authority, then measure. GEO reports and status calls keep the progress easy to follow.

01

Diagnosis

  • A GEO audit of citations in Copilot, a check of coverage in the Bing index, analysis of entities and structure, and a competitor comparison.
02

Decision

  • A GEO roadmap for your Copilot SEO, sorted by impact and effort and agreed with you.
03

Implementation

  • Establishing Bing coverage on the SEO side, rebuilding content for citability, unifying entities, and setting up structured data and IndexNow.
04

Authority

  • Building mentions in sources Bing picks up, so citations in Copilot and classic rankings support each other. This lever takes months and in return holds the citations in Copilot for the long run.
05

Monitoring

  • Continuous evaluation of the AI Performance report and LLM Ranking, plus reports and course corrections for the GEO measures in your Copilot SEO. ---

Modules

What you get: the modules of GEO optimization for Copilot SEO.

01
Data basis and the Bing index

Copilot does not work with the wording of the user's question but with a search query it builds itself and sends to Microsoft's Bing search service. The answer it returns is composed from those results. Because there is no index and no crawler of its own behind it, Bing coverage is the first and most important job in Copilot SEO. Semtrix sets up Bing Webmaster Tools, checks sitemap and crawlability with CrawlR, and reports changes through IndexNow so they reach Bing, and therefore Copilot, without delay.

02
Structure, citable content and entities

We bring content into a form Copilot can lift individual statements from: the answer first, technical terms explained rather than assumed, numbers with a source and a date, structured data for services, products and locations. At the same time we unify the entities around your brand in GEO terms. If they stay blurred, Copilot will describe your company using another provider's details, and that often only surfaces when customers ask about it. This GEO correction therefore sits early in the roadmap.

03
Mentions and authority in the Microsoft environment

Not everything Copilot knows about you is on your website, and that is exactly where this GEO module starts. Semtrix reconciles company name, service descriptions and location details across every relevant source and builds mentions specifically where Bing picks them up. With Notorious we check which sources sit behind the brands Copilot cites today. In B2B those are mostly trade portals, associations and directories, less often press articles. This is the slowest GEO work on the list and the one that lasts longest.

04
Measuring citations in Copilot

For Copilot, Microsoft provides a report of its own. The AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools has been running as a public preview since February 2026 and shows which of your pages were cited in Copilot, in Bing and in selected partner services, and through which search queries. Since June 2026 it also covers intents, topics, a citation share and a period comparison. Semtrix evaluates that report together with LLM Ranking and derives the next GEO measures for Copilot from it. ---

Semtrix by Eskimoz

What the Eskimoz group means for your citations in Copilot.

Semtrix is a global search agency: we make sure you are found wherever people search. Semtrix has been part of the European Eskimoz group, headquartered in Paris, since 2024. Who looks after your GEO project for Copilot is unaffected by that: a fixed team in Germany, reachable on the same number as before.

The group is where the Eskimoz App comes from. LLM Ranking records citations in Copilot and the other AI systems, Monitoring shows the organic position and the AI Overview mention for each keyword, and CrawlR checks the technical foundations right down to the server response. The connection was additive from the start: Semtrix knows the German market and the daily work on the index, while the group contributes technology, European reach and the GEO tooling for Copilot.

Ready to be cited in Copilot's answers?

We put your technical questions to Copilot, record who gets cited, and check how much of your website Bing actually knows. Out of that comes a GEO action plan for your Copilot SEO, in a clear order. You get the findings as a document and a meeting in which we go through them line by line. It costs nothing, commits you to nothing, and your data stays with us.

Effort & cost

What shapes effort, cost and GEO strategy in Copilot SEO?

Scope and cost follow the GEO findings, which is why Semtrix offers no off-the-shelf packages for Copilot SEO. Every workable GEO strategy starts with the GEO audit, and coverage in the Bing index comes first there. Only once it is clear what Bing knows and what it does not can anyone say which GEO services make sense for Copilot. A quote without that view would be a guess, and guesses usually cost more than an analysis. Six factors determine the effort:

Coverage in the Bing index

How many of your pages Bing knows, and how current that state is, determines everything Copilot can cite later.

Technical condition

Crawlability, server responses, load times, structure and structured data determine how much technical search engine optimization has to come before Copilot SEO.

Competitors in Copilot

Topics where Copilot has long been citing the same sources demand considerably more GEO work on content, entities and authority.

Existing content

Whether text structured for citability already exists from previous search engine optimization, or has to be written for Copilot first, shifts the effort in Copilot SEO considerably.

Mentions and authority

Where entries in trade portals and directories Bing picks up are missing, building authority is the longest item in the whole of Copilot SEO.

Target regions and languages

Copilot draws on the local Bing index per market, and each market needs GEO planning of its own. An international focus multiplies the index work in Copilot SEO.

Your benefits

What you gain with Semtrix in Copilot SEO.

In the Eskimoz App, citations and rankings sit side by side. LLM Ranking records when Copilot names your brand, Monitoring shows the organic position and the AI Overview mention for each keyword, and CrawlR checks the technical foundations. Microsoft's AI Performance report comes on top of that. Every statement in your Copilot SEO can be traced back to an evidenced source. - **Named contacts** on every project, who know your specialist market and can put every movement in the citations in context. - **Citations you can prove** rather than guess at: the AI Performance report shows the page and the query, LLM Ranking shows the trend. - **Bing as the SEO foundation:** you know at any time which of your pages Bing knows, and which ones Copilot therefore cannot cite. - **Transparency** through regular GEO reports and status calls in which the numbers are explained, not just shown. - **Close to B2B:** Copilot SEO takes effect exactly where business research begins, in Windows and Microsoft 365. - **GEO and search engine optimization planned together**, because with Copilot the same index work feeds both.
